This isn't as horrible as you would imagine. In fact, these little guys are quite tasty, don't take much time to make and kids really like them.
Ingredients
chocolate candy coating bars (or vanilla or butterscotch)
1 bag of pretzel twists
1 bag of pretzel rods
1 bag of mini M&Ms
Fruit by the Foot - the tropical or watermelon flavor
Wax Paper
The Preparation
- In a microwavable bowl, place 3 squares of the chocolate candy coating. Microwave for 45 seconds. Remove and stir. Continue microwaving for 15 second intervals until the chocolate has melted. Stir each time. (You can use milk chocolate baking chips, but the candy coating is much easier. It sets faster.)
- Once the chocolate has melted, spoon the goo onto a plate.
- Dip a pretzel twist into the chocolate. Using a fork, turn the twist over and coat the other side. Transfer the twist to the wax paper.
- Dip a pretzel rod into the chocolate. Rotate the rod until all sides have been covered. You will only need to coat a few inches but if you prefer, you may coat the entire pretzel. Transfer the pretzel to the wax paper.
- Insert the rod into the twist so that the twist stands up a bit. You can also just place the rod on top of the twist so that the rod is barley touching the bottom of the twist.
- Using the mini M&Ms, make eyes and a nose. You will have to hold the eyes on for a few seconds in order for them to stick.
- Cut a four inch section from the Fruit by the Yard. Slice the strip length wise, making two skinny strips. Wrap one strip around the pretzel rod for a scarf.
- Of course, repeat until all of the candy coating has been used. You will have to work fast or the coating will harden. Stick the plate of goo back in the microwave for a few seconds if that happens.
- You will only need to chill these reindeer for a few minutes in the refrigerator. You will notice that they harden rather quickly.
